    Philanthropy and Service

Theta Phi Alpha has really built up its participation in philanthropy and service in the past couple years. We hope to keep up the pace, creating more and more ties with organizations around the area.

    Heart to Heart Week 2015:

    September 28th-October 3rd

Heart to Heart Week supported the American Heart Association with Zumba, Jail Bail, Sweet Tomatoes and Chick-fil-A, Rock the Beat, and Dash for the Heart. The proceeds also went to The Theta Phi Alpha Foundation and the House That Theta Phi Alpha Built, two of Theta Phi Alpha's national philanthropies. Rock the Beat is our annual singing bee-like event where participants from various organizations around campus must sing along to a song and fill in the blank lyrics.

This year we decided to bring back Dash for the Heart, where members of and around the Rockhurst community were able to come and run or walk in support of the American Heart Association and heart health. Outside organizations, such as the YMCA, held booths where they could explain the ways they support the American Heart association and promote business.

    Service

Theta Phi Alpha does a lot of service in the community. Over the past year, we helped out at Rose Brooks, a shelter for woman who have experienced violence, a senior center, and we helped out with Leftovers for Love, a program at Rockhurst where leftover food from the cafe is delivered to a local shelter. We also had members who participated in Relay for Life and the Aids Walk. We also will be going to Jerusalem farm, which is helps out Kansas City community members afford things that they need for their homes. This is a varied amount of things from putting up a roof to painting they provide the service for free as long as the owner buys the supplies.
